Clear Path to the Basket Foul, foul occurs from the side or behind the offensive player

This is an example of a Clear Path to the Basket Foul. The foul by the defensive player on this play meets the following criteria to rule a Clear Path to the Basket Foul. (1) The ball originated in the backcourt, (2) the ball and the offensive player were both above the tip of the circle in the backcourt. (3) There was possession by the new offensive team, (4) there was no opponent ahead of the play who could have established a position between the player with the ball and the basket, and lastly (5), the foul was committed from behind – and not the front – of the offensive player. Since all of the criteria was met, this play correctly ruled a Clear Path Foul.
