Defensive foul, Defender makes contact to shooter’s forearm PRIOR to release Defensive foul, Defender makes contact to shooter’s wrist PRIOR to release Legal play, Defender makes incidental contact to shooter’s hand after release, no secondary movement
“This is an example of a defensive foul committed with the offensive player in the act of shooting. The defensive player, Derrick Jones Jr., makes illegal contact to the wrist of the shooter, Shae Gilgeous-Alexander, BEFORE the ball is released on the shot attempt. On jump shots taken outside the lower defensive box, the act of shooting begins after the offensive player has both gathered the ball and started his upward motion to shoot. Both of those prerequisites are met here, and this is a foul in the act of shooting.”
