Defensive foul, Defender makes secondary movement to shooter’s hand after release Defensive foul, Defender makes secondary movement to shooter’s arm after release Legal play, Defender legally contests 3-pointer, then moves foot to avoid contact shooter’s landing space
“This is an example of a defensive foul committed with the offensive player in the act of shooting. The defensive player, Josh Okogie, makes illegal contact to the wrist of the shooter, Ajay Mitchell, after the ball is released. When attempting to block a shot, defenders can contest legally at a vertical level, but they are in danger of committing a defensive foul if they make a secondary movement, such as the swipe to the shooter’s wrist that occurs here. Please note that contact by a defender to the shooter’s hand, wrist or arm can be deemed legal, provided that the contact is incidental, and there is no secondary movement.”
