Defensive foul, defender doesn’t allow shooter room to land Foul NOT in Act Shooting, foul occurs before offense catches lob pass Foul NOT in the act of shooting, offensive player takes shot while behind backboard
“This is an example of a defensive foul that is not considered to be a foul occurring during the act of shooting by the offensive player. The defensive player, Devin Booker, initiates illegal contact with the offensive player, Anthony Davis, who has jumped to receive the pass from his teammate. Despite the offensive player catching the ball and then immediately shooting, this is not a foul in the act of shooting, as the offensive player had not gathered the ball prior to the foul occurring. Again, this would not be ruled a foul in the act of shooting.”
