Foul NOT in Act Shooting, foul occurs before offense catches lob pass Foul NOT in the act of shooting, offensive player takes shot while behind backboard Foul in the act of shooting, defense pushes offensive player into shooter
“This is an example of a defensive foul that is not considered to be a foul occurring during the act of shooting by the offensive player. The on-ball defender, Marc Gasol, initiates illegal contact with the offensive player, Blake Griffin, who has gathered the ball, and appears to be in the act of shooting. However, since the offensive player was fouled and then shot the ball over the backboard while positioned underneath and behind the backboard, this is not a legal field goal attempt, and thus, this would not be ruled a foul in the act of shooting.”
