Hard Foul, Non Flagrant, defender attempts to block opponent’s shot

“This is an example of a foul that would not be considered a Flagrant Foul. The defensive player, Daniel Theis, makes a basketball play, as he tries to block the shot attempt by the offensive player, Doug McDermott. The contact is correctly ruled a 2-shot foul, and not a flagrant foul, as the contact is neither unnecessary, nor excessive. There is no wind-up, hard impact or follow through by the defender. Again, this is not a Flagrant Foul. “
