Legal contact below FT line extended on drive

This is an example of LEGAL defensive contact that occurs below the free throw line extended on a drive to the basket. The defender on this play has his

forearm on the side of the driving offensive player, and this contact does not disrupt the offensive player’s speed, quickness, balance, or rhythm. This is a legal defensive play and no foul would be called. Note that outside the Lower Defensive Box and below the free throw line extended, forearm contact by an on-ball defender is only permitted when it is made to the back or side of an offensive player with the ball.
