Legal play, player with the ball does not establish frontcourt status before pass to backcourt

“This is an example of a legal play that would not be considered a backcourt violation. The offensive player, DeMar DeRozan, receives the pass from his teammate, Patty Mills. And since Mills released the pass before he obtained frontcourt status, DeRozan’s reception of the ball in the backcourt is legal. Note that if a player establishes positive position in the frontcourt, and he then passes to his teammate in the backcourt, it would be a backcourt violation. That is not the case here and this is a legal play.”
