“This is an example of legal contact by a post defender. The post defender, James Johnson, places one hand with a bent elbow onto the back of Nikola Vucevic, the offensive player with the ball and his back to the basket. This contact remains legal as long as the defender continues to maintain his legally obtained position. There is no foul on this play as this is legal post defense. Please note that inside the lower defensive box – the area from the bottom tip of the free throw circle to the 3′ posted up marks – a post defender may place one hand, with a bent elbow, and/or one forearm onto the back of an offensive player with the ball and his back to the basket.”
