Offensive foul, RA does not apply, shooter wards off with off arm Offensive foul, RA does not apply, shooter wards off with off arm Offensive foul, RA does not apply, shooter leads with knee
“This is an example of an offensive foul for an illegal ward off, as the Restricted Area does not apply. The offensive player, Julius Randle, extends his right arm, and he wards off the defensive player, Jarrett Allen. The illegal ward off by the offensive player takes precedence over the defender’s position inside the Restricted Area, and therefore, this is an offensive foul. Please note that the Restricted Area does not apply in several situations, one of which is when an offensive player uses an arm to ward off a defender, even if that defender is positioned within the Restricted Area. Note also, that the Restricted Area is the area within the arched line on the court below the rim. It applies to secondary defenders and was established to ensure offensive players have room to drive to the basket, without allowing defensive players an unfair advantage in drawing an offensive foul.”
